Overview
Called in to recover the waste conveyors after a failed ram drove itself into the RDF bunker. I rebuilt the chain elevator and feed conveyors, repaired walkways and platforms, and added cooling pipework to keep the reactor temperature inside limits. The scope grew to cover on-call welding across shredders and elevators plus new process pipework on the anaerobic digester. I stayed on through commissioning, then handed the plant over to Suez with the lines running.
Scope & Methods
- Rebuilt waste conveyors and the chain elevator after impact damage; reset flights, guides, and drive alignment.
- Installed cooling/spray pipework into the reactor to manage high-temperature excursions during trials.
- Repaired and reconfigured walkways, platforms, and inspection doors for safe access to bunkers and machinery.
- Fabricated and fitted new pipework on the anaerobic digester alongside ongoing shredder and conveyor weld repairs.
- Provided day cover and on-call response across the six-month test period to keep throughput steady.
Highlights
Production Recovery
- Chain elevator, conveyors, and bunkers reinstated after the ram failure without missing the trial window.
- Cooling pipework retrofit stopped over-temp trips on the refractory, keeping the burn chamber online.
Access & Safety
- New platforms, guardrails, and inspection points improved maintenance access around conveyors and bunkers.
- Day and night coverage reduced downtime risk while crews completed commissioning runs.
Outcomes
- Plant cleared commissioning trials and stayed online through two high-temperature shutdown events.
- Cooling water injection and conveyor repairs kept RDF feed stable for the burn chamber.
- Handover to Suez completed with working drawings and field knowledge passed on.
